Weight Loss Improves Sex Life

A session at the European Society for Sexual Medicine conference presented evidence that if severely obese women lose weight their sexual function and cardio-metabolic functions are improved.

An 8-week Italian study took 2 groups of obese women and enrolled 23 in a residential clinical program for weight loss focused on low calorie diet and exercise. The other group of 21 obese women followed an outpatient regime of low calorie diet and exercise. Eight weeks after the programs were completed participants were evaluated for improvements in sexual function and body composition.

The residential clinic group was found to be having more frequent sex with improved arousal and lubrication and also had lowered their BMI. Researchers believe that outpatient clinical treatment that does not involve weight-loss drugs can achieve permanent improvements to sexual function.
