When people say “you get out what you put in”, they don’t just mean effort and time, there’s a lot more to think about like nutrition and sleep. Here’s what I realised this week…

Stay Hydrated
Whether it’s hot or cold or you are doing cardio or strength training, it’s important to drink plenty of water. Water will flush out the toxins, help you lose weight and prevent you from passing out!

Eat Well Before And After Training
Don’t eat too much before a workout, but ensure you have eaten something small. See foods that boost your workout here! Post workout foods should include some protein and avoid junk food. Again it’s good to eat something before working out to prevent you from passing out. Yes, this is a big concern for me. I can’t compete when I’m out cold.

Take A Vitamin And Mineral Supplement
It doesn’t hurt to take a multivitamin and mineral supplement on a normal day, so ensure that you remember to take one on the days that you train. I wanted to build up my immunity to prevent getting sick and multivitamins, Vitamin-C and Omega-3 and Omega-6 tablets have been a great help.

Get Plenty Of Sleep
Make sure that you get plenty of shut eye the night before. The extra zzzzs will keep you energised naturally and allow you to push yourself a little bit harder. I’m not sure how you react to not sleeping very well, but when I’m tired I laugh at everything. Even though laughter is good and can burn a few kilojoules, its not good to laugh at serious things or your bootcamp buddy. Not that this actually happened, I just thought I should warn you.

Have Fun
Boot camp is a great way to meet people and make friends, but working out with others also helps keep you motivated. If you are competitive it will make you push harder when you have a buddy you compete with. Having fun will keep you motivated and coming back for more.
