Is This The Next Big Milk Trend?

Yes, you didn’t read that incorrectly and we’re being totally serious! According to scientists, cockroach milk is the ‘superfood’ of the future. The research in this new study suggests that this milk, produced by a certain type of cockroach, is a whopping four times more nutritious than cow’s milk.

When this particular type of roach gives birth it produces a milky substance to feed it’s young (we know, the visual is kind of gross). Researchers found that this substance contains a super protein substance that contains more energy than your regular dairy tipple.

“The crystals are like a complete food — they have proteins, fats, and sugars,” one of the study’s main authors, Sanchari Banerjee, told the Times of India. “They can be a fantastic protein supplement,” added Dr. Subramanian Ramaswamy, the leader of the project.

Fascinating! But if like us, the thought of drinking the suff makes you nauseous, don’t panic – we’re pretty sure this ‘superfood’ won’t be hitting supermarket shelves any time soon. If anything, scientists would replicate the special, nutritious protein crystals in a lab to develop a ‘cockroach-inspired’ milk instead.

So, until that time comes rather reach for one of the dairy alternatives currently on the market and if you’re trying to up your protein intake (without eating a cockroach) try one of these protein-packed foods.
