Plus-size women face daily criticism and assumptions about their bodies, their lifestyles and their health, from internet doctors telling them to drop the kilos to trolls hurling insults. Yup, being plus-sized and visible is not always easy. But Janice Erasmus, a 32-year-old model from Cape Town, is totally flipping these stereotypes on their head.

A model and dancer, Janice and her dance crew of woman aged 35 to 60 have competed in various dance competitions around South Africa and placed tenth in The Federation of International Sports, Aerobics and Fitness International World Fitness & Hip Hop Unite Championships.

“We want to represent our country as well as body positivity among women of all ages. It’s been an important experience in my life as I’ve realised that, regardless of shape or size, I can still dance and take part in competitions. I take the stage with pride as a plus-size model, dancer and mother,” she explains.
