PSA: These Are The Beauty Trends That Will Dominate 2020

by | Jan 10, 2020 | Make-up

We’ve entered a new year (and decade), and everyone is on a “new year, new me” vibe. And what better way to ring in the new than with a new updated look? Beauty has changed so much in the last decade, from the emergence of beauty YouTubers, Instagram eyebrows and Kim Kardashian contouring and Kylie Jenner lips — the beauty industry has taken us through it all.

So, what does the year 2020 bring us? Well, it looks like this year we’re finally saying bye-bye to the nude pallets and contour and we’re embracing glowy skin, bright liner and bringing back some classics like red lipstick.

But if you’re still uncertain about just what’s ‘in’ this year, we’re here to break down some of the biggest beauty trends for 2020.

Monochromatic

The monochromatic look is all about one shade for your entire look. We’re talking matching your eyes to your lips to your cheeks — and even your outfit.

Blue eyeshadow

Whether it’s because Pantone announced that Classic Blue is the colour of the year or because we’re just feeling nostalgic — blue eyeshadow has found its way back into our makeup bags.

Glitter and jewels everywhere

In 2019 we saw the emergence of jewel-encrusted eyeliner and glitter-covered eyelids, all thanks to the hit-show, Euphoria. But you don’t have to cover your face in jewels and glitter, just adding a touch of glitter in the centre of your eyelid or on the bottom lash line. You could also opt for a glitter eyeliner like the Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner from Urban Decay.

PSA: There’s more to Maddy’s makeup than rhinestones and cat-eyes! ??Underneath her elaborate armor, Maddy feels the pain of crushed childhood dreams and a psychotic and abusive boyfriend. I designed her makeup to have a fantastical element to it because despite her fierce outward personality, Maddy is a diehard Romantic who wants to transcend the “loveless marriage” that is her home life. Swipe to see some of my favorite looks that @kirinrider gorgeously brought to life, always adding her own unique flair! The last pic was just a random makeup test that I did on Alexa before we started filming, but I think it fits in with this post. #euphoriahbo #euphoriahbomakeup #rhinestones #rhinestonebrows #rhinestoneeyes #feeleuphoria #euphoriamaddy

Graphic eyeliner

Cat eyeliner was pretty much the look of 2014-2019 but for 2020 we’re having a bit more fun with liner. Whether in interesting shapes or neon colours — anything goes in 2020.

This decade is off to a soul shaking start. These extreme highs and lows are like a rollercoaster and we are all strapped in, helplessly waiting for the next loop. I can’t help but to feel connected to everyone… can you? From what I’ve seen lately—the jokes, the memes, the grieving, the hopelessness as our planet heads to a fever— it’s like we’re all crying out hoping somebody hears us. I pray you feel seen and I pray your voice is heard because that’s precisely the tool we need if we’re going to make it through this. It’s time to speak up but most importantly show up. Our collective heavy hearts are searching for the light in this world.. it’s there, but we have to march through the darkness to reach it. Every act of love is an act of defiance to hate. How will you love today?

Red lips

If you happened to catch any of the looks from the Golden Globes, you would have noticed this trend on some of the biggest Hollywood stars — red lipstick. That’s right, the classic red lip is making a major comeback (but did it even leave?).

Soft glam

A look for the early 2000s, the soft glam was essential to basically all RnB music videos. Unlike the heavy contour and highlighter looks of the 2010s, the soft glam is all about a soft, radiant glow that looks like it comes from within. Think more golden and peachy tones instead of dark and smokey.

Heavy lower liner

A very early 2000s trend, the heavy lower liner is back in 2020. This trend goes hand-in-hand with multi-level liner — pairing upper lid liner and lower lid liner —often in different colours.

White eyeliner

As you can see, we are loving eyeliner in 2020. A crisp white eyeliner might just be the way you make a statement this year — it’s a major step up from traditional black liner.
