Her courage is undeniably inspirational.

Co-founder of PopUpGym, Letshego Zulu, has summited Mount Kilimanjaro, exactly a year after her husband’s death.

Letshego and her husband, Gugu Zulu,  undertook the Trek4Mandela last year, to raise awareness for the Caring4Girls programme, which aims to increase access to sanitary towels for hundreds of thousands of girls across the country. Unfortunately Gugu, who was a race car driver, became ill and died before he was able to complete the climb.

At the Trek 4 Mandela send-off at OR Tambo airport last week, Letshego said she would continue supporting this cause despite what life throws her way. “I’m excited to be going on this trek with an amazing group of individuals this year to honour the life of my late husband,” she said.

Yesterday the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Sello Hatang told EWN that 18 climbers reached the top of the mountain.“For some of us, it was a promise we made to Gugu on the occasion of his passing that we will return to the mountain, and we did. We’d like to thank South Africans for the support they’ve given us,” he told EWN.
