Condoms have changed considerably over the years. We’re no longer stuck with using just regular latex condoms. Instead we can choose between condoms that are flavoured, textured or even make use of the female condom.
Condoms are already the most effective form of birth control, acting doubly to prevent pregnancy as well as reducing the risk of contracting an STI. But a new ‘smart condom’ created by British Condoms could make your sexual experience even safer, by detecting the presence of certain STI’s.
How It Works
The i.Con is not an actual condom, rather it’s a ring which you can place at the base of any condom. And no, size doesn’t matter. The ring can be adjusted to suit anyones girth.

Each ring has sensors and a Nano-chip embedded in it, which measures various data each time you make use of it. The information is then sent to a paired device via Bluetooth.
The i.Con can last for 6-8 hours of ‘live’ usage before it needs to be charged (Go on, have that marathon session). It has an integrated USB port which connects to your computer and only takes an hour to charge.

— Frequency of sessions
— Total duration of sessions
— Average velocity of thrusts
— Girth measurement
— Average skin temperature

“Not only have we innovated the world’s first Smart Condom Ring that’ll measure pretty much every aspect of performance in the bedroom, but now I’m pleased to confirm that it will also have built-in indicators to alert the users to any potential STIs present,” Adam Leverson, lead engineer on the project, told Metro.
Retailing at over R900, British Condoms says there is a waitlist of 96 000 pre-orders. The product is in it’s final testing phase and will only be made available to the market later this year.
