The 10 Podcasts That Are Getting Us Through Lockdown 2.0

We’ve passed the 21-day mark and that means we’re days closer to (hopefully) getting ‘freedom’. In the meantime, we’re sure you’ve scrolled down Netflix and Showmax several times and you’re over sitting still and watching something. If you haven’t already been listening to podcasts, why don’t you give it a bash? In tough times there is no better distraction than an informed stranger with something interesting to say.

This podcast is about why comedian Nicole Byer is still single, despite being a really cool person. Each week she interviews her fellow comedians, some friends or an ex (yikes!) to find out more about their dating life. Content producer Chandre Davids loves the podcast because Nicole is hilarious and makes even the most sensitive subjects sound like everyday topics. “It’s real, relevant, relatable and makes you feel like the single life is actually not that bad,” she says.

2/ Ghost of a podcast

If you’re interested in astrology then this one is for you! The host of the podcast is an astrologer, psychic medium and animal communicator with over 20 years of experience. Every episode brings something interesting to the table. She talks to callers about the horoscopes for the week. This podcast is Chandre’s weekly fave. “Not only because it’s something, I’m interested in, but because Jessica (the host) gives amazing life advice. Even if astrology is not something you believe in, you can still learn so much about relationships, self-development and how to better the world,” she adds.

3/ On Purpose with Jay Shetty

The host of the podcast is Jay Shetty. He is a former monk, who now works to motivate others through sharing the journeys of really wise and insightful people. “I love that this podcast isn’t all like ‘love and light’, it gets down to the real struggles many of us face and shares how people overcame them.  It’s inspirational, practical and easy listening,” says Chandre.

4/ Stuff You Should Know

Digital Managing Editor, Susan Barret often finds herself going back to this podcast. The tag line is: “If you’ve ever wanted to know about champagne, satanism, the Stonewall Uprising, chaos theory, LSD, El Nino, true crime and Rosa Parks then look no further. Josh and Chuck have you covered.”  Susan says, she’s learnt about things she would never have completely understood in ways they don’t teach you in school. “If I wasn’t always a social distancer by nature, I’d have been ace at dinner parties. But now, because we’re all social distancing, I highly recommend this podcast. A) You’ll learn so much stuff. And B) You’ll be the star of the show when you do eventually find yourself around a table again,” she says.

6/ Jesus and Jollof
