Like many of us, WH cover star Angelique Daubermann, or as we know her, The Lean Girl, used to be afraid of the weights section. But it completely transformed her body and carved out lean, sculpted muscle. Now, she dedicated four to five days a week to weight training alone. “When I switched to doing weight training I just felt how much my body changed so quickly from doing things like jump squats to actually doing heavy weights, then I was progressing massively,” she says. Try the Lean Girl arm workout from Angelique to build seriously toned arms (from all angles) and get closer to nailing that pull-up. Do these moves one by one, completing three sets of each before moving on to the next move.
The Lean Girl Arm Workout
Assisted pull-ups
- 10 reps
- Use a thick band for support, and as you get stronger, use thinner bands. Because this is your first workout, give it your all.
Overhead push-ups
- 12 reps
- “You should grab a barbell that’s light enough to finish the reps, but the last three should be harder to finish,” says Angelique.
Tricep dips
- 12 reps
- Use the tricep dip machine at the gym to really deepen your extension and challenge yourself to lift yourself all the way up.
Barbell bicep curls
- 12 reps
- If your arms fatigue, try a lighter weight.
Face pulls on the ski machine
- 12 reps
- “You’ve got to squeeze your lats as you extend to really work your back muscles,” she says.
Negative push-ups
- 10 reps
- Go low and slow as you can. Since you’ve been working yourself the entire time, this move will exhaust you. Don’t give up.
