Hey shorties, this one is for you (finally!)…
As a short(er) woman I often feel stumpy in flats, and especially in sneakers. In a perfect world I would wear beautiful heels all day long, elongate my legs and never suffer from sore feet. I would walk through life like I was bouncing on a cloud leaving drops of shoe-envy behind me. Ridiculous, I know. But a girl can dream.
Until the perfect pair of comfortable, stylish and elegant high heels are made, there’s a sneaker trend that has caught my attention. At first, it was given a bad rep – being dubbed the “dad sneaker” – but the trend has come a long way since then. Now with bold, iridescent designs making them much softer and feminine. I don’t know about you but I’ve never seen my dad in sparkly pink sneakers? Which means, at last, a trend that the vertically challenged can get behind and wear with confidence.
Take note…
Sure, these may be part of the 90s resurgence we’ve seen on so many fashion catwalks of late, but this is not an excuse to start dressing like a Spice Girl (again). No need to pair them with miniskirts, trakkie bottoms or pigtails. This time around, platform sneakers get paired with more sophisticated tapered suiting, satin maxi skirts and quirky clutch bags.
Don’t believe me? Take some inspo from some of the world’s fashion bloggers doing it best… And then shop my pick of the best on the web, RN.
