3 DIY Face Masks For Dry Skin

DIY Face Mask #1: The Banana Rama

Bananas are the superstar in this face mask recipe. The silica in bananas can help to increase collagen production, whilst the natural proteins help keep skin hydrated and smooth. They also contain Vitamin A, which can help to restore skins moisture, while honey works to heal cracked and flaky skin.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • 1/4 cup plain yoghurt
  • 2 Tbsp honey

Method

  1. Mash up banana into a smooth paste.
  2. Add plain yoghurt and honey. Mix well.
  3. Place a warm washcloth over your face for 20 – 30 seconds. This will help open your pores so your skin can soak up the mask.
  4. Gently apply the mixture to your face and neck. Leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes.
  5. Rinse off with warm water. Clean any excess off with a clean face cloth.
  6. Splash cold water on your face to close up your pores. Pat dry with a soft clean towel.

Plain yoghurt is one of those multivitamin superfoods commonly added to many homemade face mask recipes because it promotes beautiful, youthful skin. It’s loaded with an abundance of vitamins which aid in cell growth, has anti-bacterial properties and hydrate the skin. It also contains lactic acid which we know helps to combat free radicals that age your skin. While the addition of oats exfoliate and remove excess sebum and dirt from deep within the skin.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup plain unsweetened yoghurt
  • 1 Tbsp oats
  • 1 Tbsp honey

Method

  1. Place the yoghurt, oats and honey in a bowl. Stir until combined.
  2. Place a warm washcloth over your face for 20 – 30 seconds.
  3. Apply a thick coat of the mixture to your face with clean fingertips. Allow to sit for 10 – 20 minutes.
  4. Rinse off with warm water. Clean any excess off with a clean face cloth.
  5. Splash cold water on your face to close up your pores. Pat dry with a soft clean towel.

DIY Face Mask #3: The Glowcado

The natural oils found in avocados can penetrate the skin to nourish, soften and hydrate, leaving it silky smooth. These hydrating properties may reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as help keep skin smoother for longer.

Ingredients

  1. 1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
  2. 1 egg yolk
  3. 2 Tbsp of raw honey
  4. 1 Tbsp avocado oil (if you have available)
  5. 1 tsp full-fat yoghurt

Method

  1. Puree avocado in a blender or mash together with a fork until smooth.
  2. Add egg yolk, honey, avocado oil and yoghurt and blend again until smooth.
  3. Place a warm washcloth over your face for 20 – 30 seconds.
  4. Apply a thin layer of the avocado mask evenly over your face. Leave for 10 – 15 minutes.
  5. Gently wipe off with a moist cloth and rinse off any excess with warm water.
  6. Splash cold water on your face to close up your pores. Pat dry with a soft clean towel.
